Re: Ivan Toney - 8 Month Ban
While he was Newcastles books .

The Brentford and England striker, 27, bet on his own clubs to lose on 13 occasions and provided inside information to a friend regarding when he was starting a match.

Re: Ivan Toney - 8 Month Ban
Percy, Toney never betted against his club while he was playing for them so there was never any question of match fixing in this case.

Re: Ivan Toney - 8 Month Ban
His ban was lenient due to his own admission to gambling addiction.

If anyone thinks it’s got anything to do with the colour of his skin needs to seek treatment for paranoid schizophrenia

Re: Ivan Toney - 8 Month Ban
Layne Kay and Swan got four months in nick for match fixing and when they came out they got lifetime bans.
This I know was for match fixing IMHO there's not a lot of difference and who knows if he decided to have an off day with certain matches.
Very lucky fella in my book.

"Sydney, I think if everyone was honest with themselves they'd know the answer. Ridiculously short ban."

Who says he's received more lenient treatment than a white player?

Nagel 4:11 Fri May 26
Re: Ivan Toney - 8 Month Ban
Eh? The agenda is obviously that they think he's getting better treatment than a white player would, when if you look at the 2 similar cases I mentioned it's clear that he hasn't.

No-one's said anything like any player should be allowed to bet.

Well, they are pushing an agenda - Which is that professional footballers should not bet on professional football. It's pretty straight forward.

Re: Ivan Toney - 8 Month Ban
If you can't see the huge difference between someone actually involved in the game betting against themselves and someone who isn't playing putting a bet on then that's on you I guess.

The two closest betting scandals like this in English football were probably Scott Kashket and Joey Barton. Kashket got 2 months for 183 bets, including betting against his own club but not while he played. Barton got 18 months, having made over 1200 bets, some against his own team in games he was actually playing in.

You take those 2 cases in mind then Toney's ban doesn't seem especially lenient, unless you're desperate to push an agenda of some sort.

Re: Ivan Toney - 8 Month Ban
It's hardly a COMPLETELY different story ffs, the lad would know exactly what's going on at the clubs in which he was betting on.

He's got off very, very lightly.

Nagel 1:37 Fri May 26
Re: Ivan Toney - 8 Month Ban
No-one said he was innocent, but in that breakdown, he never once bet on the team he was playing in to lose.

Completely different story to a case like Stephen Lee's which was clearly match fixing.

Nagel

this being an innocent mistake is now long gone.

Breakdown:
- 232 matches total were bet on
- 126 bets related to competition his club was eligible to compete in
- 29 of those bets related to matches his club was involved in

- 16 bets were for his team to win
- 11 of those bets were for matches he played in

- 13 bets were for his team to lose
- 11 of those were for his parent club Newcastle to lose while he was away on loan
- 2 of those bets were for his team Wigan to lose while he was not in the matchday squad

- 15 bets were for him to score in matches he played in

Re: Ivan Toney - 8 Month Ban
Sydney, in comparison to, say, the snooker player Stephen Lee who got around a 10 year ban ?

Nagel 1:29 Fri May 26
Re: Ivan Toney - 8 Month Ban
Not quite Sydney. He bet on his own team (Newcastle) to lose in some games, but he was away on loan at the time.

Sydney_Iron 1:25 Fri May 26
Re: Ivan Toney - 8 Month Ban
Was reading that he was even betting on games he was playing in? How the hell did he only get 8 months, surely that a lifetime ban especially if he won money......

Call me a cynic (not wanting to sound racist as anyone who dares say anything like this often gets fingers pointed at them) BUT in the current climate if this had been a white player would they have only got 8 months?

Heard a stat that by watching the average Prem match you are exposed to 500 betting advertisements. That's obscene.

Also you just know if he played for us he would have got a lifetime ban!!!
